Episode 7: Philip is back home in AZ, learn more about Honour House and a Council Roundup!

In this episode host Daniel Fontaine interviews “Philip” – he’s the game show contestant who become famous after appearing on the Price is Right and overbidding on a trip to New Westminster.

Tourism New West launched a #findphilip campaign and once he was found they got to work using this as a great opportunity to promote our city. Philip is now back in Arizona and in this podcast he reflects back on his recent trip to the Royal City.

For the Record also interviews Allan De Genova, the man behind Honour House. We find out how Honour House is helping first responders and their families as well as how it all got started.

Did you know Honour House almost never came to New West? Yes, it was almost built in another Metro Vancouver city…and you’ll have to listen to the interview to find out where!

You’ll also want to listen to a quick council roundup where some of the highlights of the recent council meeting are discussed. This podcast is available on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Amazon, Google Podcast and Spotify.

NOTE: the views expressed in For the Record with Daniel Fontaine are his own and not necessarily those of New Westminster City Council

Top 5 city and school board issues ranked for 2023

When it came to 2023, there were a number of issues that could have made it into the top 5. It was the job of a guest panel comprised of Trustee Danielle Connelly, Trustee Candidate Kathleen Carlsen and Councillor Paul Minhas to come up with the list. They joined me on my latest podcast to rank the issues they thought deserved some year-end attention.

In a previous podcast, my guest panel spoke about a number of issues at both the council and school board level that made the ranking of 6 to 10. Both parts one and two of this podcast are also available for download on all major platforms including Spotify, Google Podcasts, Amazon and Apple Podcasts.

You’ll want to listen to this episode to see whether issues such as Community First Trustee Dee Beattie setting up a fake Twitter account and using it to relentlessly attack her opponents ended up making it to the top of the list! Where did a record 6.4% property tax hike in 2023 imposed by Community First rank? You might be surprised with what my panel finally decided!
